How It Works Â
Step One: Driver Education Course
It all starts here!Â
Teenagers between the ages 14.5 and 18 must complete a Driver Education Course to be eligible for a Learner Permit under North Carolina’s Graduated Driver License Program.
Driver Education Courses consist of two phases, Classroom Instruction and Behind-The-Wheel Training.Â
All Teen Driving Packages include Classroom Instruction, Behind-The-Wheel-Training, and our exclusive DriveShieldâ„¢ simulator training. Â
Phase One
During Phase 1, students will complete 30 hours of classroom Instruction. Charlotte Driving Academy's Hybrid Classrooms are equipped with the latest technology to enhance learning and engage students both in-person, and online. Our syllabus combines state requirements, national safety recommendations, and our proprietary aviation-inspired training techniques to offer Charlotte teens a premium driver training experience.
All Teen Driving Packages include Classroom Instruction, Behind-The-Wheel-Training, and our exclusive DriveShieldâ„¢ simulator training. Â

Phase Two, its time to Drive!
In Phase 2, students will log a minimum of 6 hours of Behind-The-Wheel training under the supervision of a certified driving instructor. Students will learn how to operate a vehicle and practice all required road test maneuvers in our modern fleet of training vehicles.

* Students may early enroll up to 6 months prior to eligibility age. Drive Training cannot be completed prior to 14.5 years of age.

What is a Graduated Driver License?
Graduated driver licensing systems are designed to provide new drivers of motor vehicles with driving experience and skills gradually over time in low-risk environments.

How Long Does It Take?
Courses are offered in 5, 6 and 8 day classes. Combined with driving, most teens obtain their Driver Education certificate in 2-3 weeks. Premium accelerated courses are available throughout the year.

Where Do I Get My Eye Exam?
Option 1: Eye exams will be performed during classroom instruction by a DMV official.
Option 2: You can also complete your eye exam with your family optometrist. Please download and have your doctor fill out the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles Vision Specialist Form DL-77.
